The Pokemon Company was founded by Nintendo as a brand management company for Pokemon. It's still a subsidiary of Nintendo despite being able to make independent decisions.
OT: I suppose its within their rights to send a C&D letter, though I don't really see TPC selling Pokemon-themed planters of their own. xD
