The Evil Empire is widely disliked, and their fan base does not endear the team to many others either. So long as they're in Boston and headed by Darth Hoodie, they'll stay on the list for at least three years after they cease being relevant.

The Patriots seem to be the most polarized team in the league. They have the most recent large group of bandwagon fans that watch the game because baseball coming to an end, and they the have the most hate because they have been stuck in the easiest divison in the league since Brady came into the NFL. It is quite a funny situation actually.

I'm not sure I'd agree the AFC East has always been the easiest division the past fifteen years or so - that honor rotates pretty often - but it has definitely been pretty soft, with the exception of the first Sanchez years (no credit to Sanchez for those, btw). That said, the Patriots repeatedly proved their mettle against tougher teams, so I can't say their success is due to weak competition.
