How is she incompetent? She is a great character. Not everyone is a rock, some of us have feelings.

She breaks down in front of an enemy she has faced many times before and never been phased by. Adam is able to sneak up and shoot her. She has to be rescued from Ridley by Anthony, who she then fails to save in return. (The fact he doesn't die does not mitigate her failure)
