Deus Ex is cheaper in another console, so I don't buy it for mine? that logic makes no sense... and even if that is true why people did not buy it after the price dropped. Injustice was a very good game that received almost all DLC, till it made no sense to release it because too few people had the game. Nintendo fans just want Nintendo exclusives, that is it, so now we cannot beg or demand anything from third party publishers because we don't buy their games anyway. Did the small problems keep the PS3 gamers from buying a lot of third party games, it did not and as soon as the sales improved they were able to demand improved quality. Are the Xbox one players not buying the games because they are running at 720p instead of 1080p, or have a few frame drops? they are buying them and they will ask for improved quality because they are indeed showing to the publishers that they want those games. Have you seen in the forum how many Nintendo Fans have 3rd party games for the Wii U? The number is too low and if I was running a bussiness like the publishers are, I will too ignore the platform because it does not make financial sense and my job is to make money and keep my workers safe, not offer better games to people who are not interested in buying them. |
But Batman Origins came out being notably worse than the other versions, in addition to missing features (whatever your opinion of those features is is irrelevant). The fact that it didn't get DLC just reduces faith in consumers for later purchases and decreases any potential for legs.
Whats wrong with not wanting to but Deus Ex because it is cheaper elsewhere? Any educated consumer would know that they were being ripped off, and most consumers aren't just going to buy something that they know is a rip-off. Many of those consumers may have put the game on a "wait until price drop list" or bought the game on steam or elsewhere due to this.
Injustice only had a collectors addition on other consoles and there were a few other features that showed that the game wasn't being fully supported (such as the delay in the UK and the lack of communication with the iOS app.
My point was that an audience needs to be built with good titles, because our faith in third parties has been shown to be unfounded time and time again. Every time a new third party game is announced (which isn't too often these days), we think "okay, how are we going to get screwed over this time?". I don't know about you, but that makes me not really want to buy third party games. While a good third party game may come around once in a while that isn't gimped in some way (however rare that is), we still have that doubt in our minds. Third parties can change our minds my releasing good games that don't feel gimped, or like an afterthought and there really isn't much risk. This could have trememdous long term benefits. Thinking only about the short term is a good way to run your company into the ground...
The difference between PS3/XBO and Nintendo consoles, is that the difference was really only technical. While some of the Wii U's problems with 3rd parties are technical, the main problem is that 3rd parties don't put the effort or faith into Wii U games as they put into others. The games aren't marketed well, they aren't shown off as much or they are sometimes delayed, miss out on LEs, miss out on DLC, etc...
Once again, it isn't the consumer's job to buy subpar products in order to change publishers' minds. It is the publisher's job to change the consumer's mind about the product beforehand.
