I think one of the cold, hard lessons Nintendo learned this generation is betting on a hardware gimmick can be a big risk.
It worked on the DS (touch) and Wii (motion), but I think it bit them in the ass with the 3DS (3D screen) and Wii U (GamePad).
I suspect they will be quite a bit more cautious next time out about exactly what is in the box, what it costs, and whether or not its worthwhile trying to base the entire platform around 1 basic idea.
