Wow, you really can't be positive about anything.

I've always said, the more I like something (anime, movies, music, games), the more difficult it is for me to find some something I love within it, but when I find something I love, I love it way more than I would have ever been able to if I wasn't so critical of everything. While that certainly isn't true for everyone, I don't think that it is a bad way to be. So yeah, me and VanceIX can be negative nancies sometimes, but that is just because we love anime so much...or at least that is how it is for me. I don't want to be putting words in VanceIX's mouth...

PS: I'm Supernatural by that list...hm, maybe I should watch more supernatural anime. I'm jealous of all the January people though :P

Well, it's off putting. Especially when you claim to love anime but reject most of it.  It's one thing to like good animes, it's another to be very vocal about what you don't like.

To me it probably was the other way around. I started anime with a very narrow view and wanted to only get the most serious and sophisticated animes. I started off with stuff like NGE, Ergo Proxy and GitS. I slowly branched off into comedy and romance and by extension anything fun. Now I am in the lucky position that I have every season to look forward to at least 20 animes that will fall into my accepted range.

There are only very few genres or themes I reject outright. But that's less due to anime but my general preferences that I had all my life. But even if I reject them I acknowledge their quality and/or intention to appeal to a certain demographic.

Just a tip from me how to judge anime even with a refined taste. Always judge them by what the anime wants to be and not what you think it should be. That helps a lot.
