No one is saying that it doesn't cost R&D or production. They've done it every generation and technology is getting more powerful and cheaper at an alarming rate.

Is that a joke? That's literally what happened with the Wii U, only this would be the smart thing to do. How would any of this bring Nintendo into debt? And who brought up EA at all?
ARM is cheaper than x86. Those are your words. Nintendo would use it because it is cheaper, more efficient, and consumes less power. Those are your words. If the more expensive to manufacture PS4 is selling at a profit right now, what makes you think that it wouldn't be able to sell at a profit in two years for $300? And if ARM is such a cheaper alternative that is more efficient than x86, what makes you think that Nintendo can't make a console equal to the PS4 in power using that architecture for $300 being sold at a profit?
None of those games will do what MK8 did, and none of those games have any hope of selling the kind of consoles that Smash and Kart can. Maybe Zelda. That's it. One more console pushing game after Smash 4 won't push the Wii U out of tracking behind the GCN. No one is forgetting Nintendo's other franchises, but Nintendo's other franchises are not even remotely big enough to bring the Wii U out of the hole it's in. It positively destined to be Nintendo's worst selling console, and it's destined to have a short lifespan.
