Yes you do, if you want to play the latest and greatest. People arent buying Wii Us and 3ds' for Mario 1, they are barely buying anything really in Wii U's case. Not sure why this is hard to grasp

The VC is a selling point of Nintendo systems. Some people buy it for those old games.
