Well, they did with the wii, but the wrong way. By targeting non gamers, they made a lot of money, but non-gamers' wii started to take dust after 2-3 years.

So they are not interested in future nintendo products.

A good example of expanding audience would be Sony. Their main first party offering were popular with kids on ps1, 12-15 yo with ps2, and 18-25yo with ps3.

That way they kept their first audience as they grew up, but also attracted everyone around them. The genesis did the same by targeting teenagers, because they knew the NES kids had grown up.
