You do indirectly say it when you say that the 3DS is taking sales away from the Wii U. That means that they are competing, and that means that if one goes up, the other goes down. But when the Wii U launches, the 3DS isn't affected, and it just keeps on trending as if nothing happened.

If they were competing, even if the 3DS was winning the cometition, the emergence of the Wii U would have lowered it's sales.
