Why Does Nintendo Fail at Creating a Brand?

It's as though this tiny spark of promise that Nintendo has recently shown has caused some people to flashback to 2008 where a number of posters felt the need to make a nearly full time job out of trying to convince people that no matter how many Wiis were sold Nintendo wasn't actually relevant or important to 'the industry'.

Don't worry about it guys, I don't think we are heading back to those dark days any time soon and I'm sure Wii U sales will be back in the doldrums before long.

Meanwhile I'll give Nintendo's branding failures and apparent historic anonymity little more thought as I have much more important things to do with my time, playing Mario Kart 8 :)

Taking this a little too far are we? I'm still a Nintendo fan and kept my 3DS...it's all good. Just because I sold my Wii U doesn't mean I dislike Nintendo or want to hate on them. I've wondered why Nintendo has never stuck with a brand for a while now. People are right, it was "Nintendo" but they get rid of that name being tied to the consoles. As for the thread about Nintendo being irrelevant and not helping shape the industry? That makes no sense in my opinion. Of course, Nintendo helped shape the industry...
