Nintendo has to think about survival at this point. They can't just make whatever they want any more, if they want to stay in the home console market they need to focus on making games that move hardware.

DKR2 will not move a significant amount of hardware, just like Tropical Freeze didn't, because they both appeal to an audience that Nintendo already has on lockdown. They need to concentrate on capturing new gamers, or over time their fanbase will wither away.

Metroid sales are usually lower than DK's.

It's not just about  software sales, it's also about hardware sales. A quality HD Metroid would have moved more systems than Tropical Freeze. (OR DKR2)
