October is the only Month of the Holiday season that doesnt have a mega release within the first 3 Weeks. December doesnt count, because everyone wants to have a game on the market ready for Black Friday.

September will have the combined hit of Destiny on the 9th and FIFA 15 on the 23rd. The games around these 2 wont get a great push because Destiny and FIFA (At least in EU) will dominate ad space (including in-store) at the start and end of the Month.

November has the early push for Call of Duty and Halo, which means there will be very little left for the smaller titles at the start of the Month. The end of November has Pokémon and LBP3, which will again (I assume) dominate ad space as they are the big holiday exclusives for 3DS and PlayStation 4. Far Cry 4 is releasing between the CoD/Halo and Pkmn/LBP pushes too.

Now if we go back and look at October, the only "mega" franchise releases are Battlefield and Assassin's Creed, which both come within a Week of each other at the end of the Month. The start of October was relatively free of a "mega" hit franchise, which is why we are seeing so many smaller titles releasing on the 7th. Alien, Dragon Age, Driveclub, Shadow of Mordor and Project Spark.

Realistically, developers should be looking towards Summer releases in the future. 2013 and 2014 have both shown that a game can release in the Summer to be a gigantic success. The Last of Us and Watch Dogs have both impressed greatly. The Holiday Months get too crowded and smaller games with insignificant advertisement budgets get lost in the rush for FIFA, Call of Duty, Halo, Madden, Assassin's Creed and Battlefield. They need to start aiming at July-August release windows, with a late September push being the limit. Anywhere beyond usually gets left in the dust of the mega franchises, unless they are backed by Activision, EA, Ubisoft or a 1st party publisher.
