I get what you're saying and I agree with it, but you misunderstood my post entirely. Keep badges and keep the points system, but don't leave them either unfinished (badges) or without a purpose (points). If they were updated regularly or could be used for something then great; it'd be an incentive for people to post and to add to discussion to "unlock" features.
But right now? There's no point as it is.
