They did do just that with Wii Fit U ... it has all new mini-games that are better/deeper than the previous Wii Fit titles. Still no one bought it.

Kinect Sports on XBox One basically did the same thing you're asking for and it's a flop.

Mario & Sonic and Wii Party U also have tons of new mini-games ... they're not exactly big successes either.

Maybe it's just time to accept that the console motion mini-game craze has just had its day in the sun and that day is now past (just like the craze for guitar/rock perhiperhal games has come and gone).

After a while it just gets boring and mining new sports is not easy as there's only maybe 9-12 mainstream sports that everyone understands. No one's dying to play Wii Sports cricket or curling for example. Tennis, golf, and bowling are the three that simply have the widest appeal and are the easiest to understand.

I think the motion controller may have a revival in a couple of years if VR takes off, because you kinda need a motion controller for that, but otherwise I think the "Wii" concept of Wii Sports/Fit has run its course.

I never played the originals. But I would like to point out that they did a horrible job promoting Wii Fit U and it was made at an even darker time for the Wii U than it is in now. No one noticed. Plus when they did promote the Wii Fit U, did they show all the new things to do? Were they really that new? You know what I mean?

Remember how different Sports resort was than Wii Sports? They showed it, explained it, and marketed the heck out of it. Wii sports club has the same mii's, same visuals ( just a little sleeker), and the same sports. Only thing that is different is that you have online. They just took a step backwards, made it free to play for like two years, and did not market it at all. I have already played most of the games for hours. Buying it for 50 bucks does not appeal to me now. Agree?

I do agree with you though. They need to actually give these things a huge make over or the fit/sports name will be dead rather quickly.

Correction: it's dead already, Jim.

I actually don't remember any commercials for Wii Sports Resort, but then again they didn't really need to advertise that, the Wii was the hot trend at that time.

But we also need to understand ... the Wii is old hat by now .... it's eight years old, that's the difference in time span from this:

to this

8 years is an eternity in tech cycles, things come and go, the sports/fitness mini-game crazes of the mid/late 2000s is just another one of them headed to the gaming graveyard. Not just Wii Sports/Fit, but Deca Sports, EA Active, Kinect Sports, Carnival Games, Your Shape, etc. are basically defunct or niche IP now.

Even Just Dance ... look at the year to year drop offs for that IP, it will be joining the likes of Guitar Hero in two years or less.
