Dude, Hyrule field in Ocarina is like a playpen compared to modern open world games. Massive open world RPGs like Fallout and Skyrim required you to traverse to all locations on foot until you initially discover them, at which point you can fast travel to any marked location on your map. It could easily take close to an hour to go from one end of the maps to the other in one run... with Ocarina's Hyrule field you can do a bunch of rolls and travel the length of it in a matter of a few minutes.
