Notes:

  • Thanks to the many major adjustments made by VGCHartz this week, including a down-sizing of Watch Dogs's first week, it is kind of hard to say exactly how certain games changed positions. Nevertheless, we'll ddo our best.
  • The Top 30 entries remain constant this week, with Watch Dogs actually losing over 100,000 sales even after its second week due to adjustments. This is not tragic for Ubisoft, as sales were still fantastic, but it makes some of the statements I said last edition hyberbole.
  • The true big story of the week in terms of growth was Mario Kart 8, which jumped from #18 to #13 of all console games this generation after having nearly 300,000 sales in a week. True, Watch Dogs sold even more, but its legs were proportionately less impressive. MK8 is also one of the 6 Nintendo Games in the Top 20, and if legs continue to be strong it can reach the Top 10 this summer.
  • Mario Kart 8 is already on par with Knack in Japan, and seems destined to overtake it next week. This would make MK8 a bigger game than any PS4 title, within three weeks of release.
  • Despite the success of MK8, the Top 30 includes over a million more copies of PS4 games than Wii U games. Basically, Infamous: Second Son prevents it from being a de facto tie. However, neither platform is crushing the Xbone.
  • The big multiplatform games of the next couple of months are EA Sports UFC, Sniper Elite 3, Madden NFL 15, and Transformers. The PS4 is getting The Last of Us Remastered and the Wii U is getting Wii Sports Club. None of these games are likely immediate hits, but can easily take us by surprise. Also note that Hyrule Warriors is an August release in Japan, but based on series history, I doubt that it will ever make the Top 30.
