Nintendo - Zelda U graphics - View Post

Also, most people who dislike the cartoony Zeldas are the fake fans who grew up with Ocarina of Time and never again played a game in the series apart from Twilight Princess (which was the same game).

These people have a very distorted image of what Zelda is supposed to be like. Zelda is not supposed to be a realistic fantasy game with a badass character. From the beginning, it always had a sort of cartoon style to it - just take a look at the first Legend of Zelda artwork or A Link to the Past for examples.

After Aonuma took over, however, it was established that 3D Zeldas would always have different artstyles and it has been like that for over 10 years now. Still, most games remain not hyper realistic for a very specific reason - Zelda is not hyper realistic in its essence. And that's what some people really need to start understanding.

If you want a medieval fantasy open-world game with realistic graphics, there's a lot of options out there. The Elder Scrolls and The Witcher are two very notable ones. Zelda isn't.

No, we just don't want to see a cartoony Zelda. I liked The Wind Waker, but would have preferred it be in OOT graphics.

A lot of fans who seem to like the Skyward Sword look seem to be trying to convince themselves to like it. "Zelda is not supposed to be a realistic fantasy game with a badass character." What? So Ocarina of Time, the highest selling and most loved Zelda game isn't a real Zelda game?  And A Link to the Past looks closer to Ocarina than The Wind Waker and Skyward Sword...

The reason everytime they show off a Zelda tech demo it looks realistic is because they know that's what people want. They are doing this Skyward Sword style because it's easier to develop for. That's it. Google "The Legend of Zelda," and 90% of what you see is the "realistic" graphics. Because that is what Zelda is to most people.
