Go for it. Here are a few things though

*In reference to your question about basic vs. premium, the most obvious difference is the available storage space on the console: 8GB vs. 32 GB, and shave off about 3GB after all firmware updates. If you plan to buy digital games, an external HDD is a must. Nintendo put out a list of preferred HDDs, but there aren't many that struggle with the Wii U. Just make sure it either has its own power adapter or you have Y-cable.

*If you only buy discs and never download games, you have plenty of space. It would be a long time before you could fill up those 8GB.

*The other big difference, and this is huge if you're big on digital, is the Digital Deluxe Promotion. Long story short, with a premium Wii U, you get 10 percent off of ALL digital purchases. Not right at checkout, but for every $50 you spend, you get a free $5 download code. However, this expires at the end of the year. I am really hoping Nintendo extends it or makes it permanent.

*Speaking of digital, Ubisoft is having a summer sale from now until July 7 on almost all of its Wii U and 3DS games. Rayman Legends and Zombi U are both around $20 in the eShop. Cloudberry Kingdom is $6. It's a man's man platformer, a la Super Meat Boy or I Wanna Be the Guy: low production values, whip-your-ass gameplay.

*If you were considering buying Wind Waker, then buy Mario Kart instead. I know you said you don't care about it, but you have through the end of June to register MK8 on Club Nintendo and get a free game, one of them being Wind Waker. I believe your region counts as Europe, so I think you'll have 10 choices. I won't list them all here, but several of them are games you will very likely end up buying. You planned to get New Super Mario Bros. U, right? That's one of the choices. You can sell or give away your MK8 copy if you really don't want it.

*The Wonderful 101 is just pure fun, and it's extremely cheap.

*I don't know how Aussie bucks compare to US bucks, but it sounds like you'll be getting quite the deal. I doubt the next Wii U price cut will match that.

*Online services are free.
