That is not as good as you make it sound. The aspect of portability is the reason the game became so much popular, the ability to interact with other people without the limitations of the home console. Even the upgrade of internet conectivity didn't deminish the importance of human interaction. How many people go to conventions and other events with their handhelds, just to play games in company? Would it be the same if you restrict the games to a living-room? It's the human factor the element that makes the game so appealing.
