If the Phantom Menace was the first Star Wars film, there would be no Star Wars. If the existence of the franchise depended on that film, SW would only be one of the low budget porly-written science fiction films that the Mistery Science Teatre makes fun of. No other SW movies would exist, and George Lucas's career would be completely different.
