Well I hate saying someone played the game wrong, but you played the game wrong.
Sounds like you just sent units in battle and hoped they survived and when they didn't you grinded them to be overleveled so they could be sent in a frontal assault.
Fire Emblem is "Strategy" game. You need to use strategy. Have supports stand by each other, use magic/bows to fire from distance, use sword against axe, use tanks, and hit and run with others, ect.
Sounds like you did the pay to win and then complained the game was too easy.
