I really don't think that you would have a problem if you just switched the remote/nunchuck. I don't believe that there is a swappable function, but I know you can swap jump/shoot.
I think that you should definitely buy it...but maybe you should try renting or borrowing it from someone, first.
This is certainly a case for getting that Player's Choice back for the Wii. There are so many great games out there that no one has played yet because they don't want to plop down $50 for a game they're not sure will be their cup of tea. For me that would be games like Medal of Honor, Trauma Center, and ExciteTruck (I've rented it for a total of $30....so I need it to come down to justify my purchase:o)....)
