This is kind of narrow minded for a few reasons. If a console supports VR or VR on PC, it's an optional way of playing games. If you have friends around then you don't have to use VR. If you don't have friends around then you still don't to VR. The point it that you can use VR and an optional way to play games. If you use VR, you are not all of a sudden unable to play games the tradional way.
Miyamoto is almost trying to say that its weird to play by themselve "in a corner" but the reality is that most gamers actually play by themselves. I'm sure there are plenty of you that will claim otherwise but in general gamers play by themselves (either online or singleplayer). I don't mean that your not playing with friends online. Also the GF/wife/dog/cat who happen to be in the same room at the same time also doesn't mean you are playing with somebody. Let's face it, not matter how hard you try to show off your gaming skills, your cat just doesn't care.
Last point is that when you play online, who says that it has to be a lonely experience? I'm sure a VR headset connected to a platform that is connected to the 'net can open a whole new world of ways to enhance the online experience... with other people.
