Nintendo really ignored the 3DS this year and really on focused on Wii U especially at E3. Games like Kirby rainbow curse and Mario Maker could have been easily made for the 3DS, except instead of using NSMBU graphics it would use NSMB2 graphics for mario maker.Really the only big releases this year were Yoshi's New Island (which was OK but woolly world looks soooo much better), Kirby Triple Deluxe, Smash Bros 3D, and Pokemon gen 3 remakes. Compare that to 2013 where we got Luigi's Mansion dark moon, Pokemon X and Y, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D,Mario and Luigi Dream Team, A link between worlds, and probably a couple more I missed.

Kirby Rainbow Curse is played on the touch screen, so it wouldn't have worked on the 3DS because it wouldn't use the 3D screen.

Mario Maker has the NES game, and they would need more time & money to do the stereoscopic rendering, especially time consuming, I mean just figuring out how exactly you want to do 3D in the NES Super Mario Bros. game consumes time by itself, let alone the other things in development that would consume even more time for a 3DS Mario Maker. And there's no reason to make Mario Maker for Wii U if there's a 3D one. So they had every reason for this game to also be on the Wii U exclusively instead.

2014 does have a great 3DS lineup, you just didn't see many revealed at E3 for the Wii U's sake. But look forward to unannouced games coming to the 3DS in just 2014 alone.
