| Kyuu said: 2- claiming Siege is Ubisoft's new announcement is awfully similar to saying FFXV was Square's new game at E3 2013. Rainbow Six Siege is, basically, "Patriots" which debuted in 2011.. |
It may not be a new annoucement but it is a new game. Plus, its predecessor was launched 6 years ago, which makes this sequel a very important title. Plus, it was shown on this E3 a very elucidative gameplay demo, not just a teaser (like in Uncharted 4). If Sony showed The Last Guardian with a gameplay demo and a release date, that would be a big announcement (although it would not be a brand new game). Therefore, Rainbow Six Siege, which is actually a different game from Rainbow Six Patriots, was something big.
Shape Up and Just Dance 2015 are not my kind of games but I see the huge innovation on the latter and the creativity and quality on the former. They may not be AAA titles but they are certainly greater than indie games. Just because they don't match your tastes you shouldn't disregard them. Some people like them and they were huge for their audience.
| Kyuu said: 3- Sony owns a lot of first party studios, it's unreasonable to expect each and every one of them to make new game annoucement every 1 or 2 years. I'm pretty sure if Sony showed more Driveclub gameplay, it'll fall into your (games already showed on previous conferences) point of criticism.. |
Unreasonable?! Last gen, Insomniac launched Resistance in 2006, R&C Tools of Destruction in 2007, Resistance 2 in 2008, R&C A Crack In Time in 2009, Resistance 3 and R&C All 4 One in 2011, etc. It has averaged 1 game per year. 1 game every 2 years is also ok. Less than that is just bad management (either bad use of resources or downright laziness). But, even launching every 3 or 4 years, the studios could at least show something new about their productions every year. Not even that "kindness" (I would call it respect) we see from most of Sony studios.
If Sony showed more Drive Club gameplay without any new features (thus, more of the same) you can be damn sure I would criticize them. But if they don't show anything at all about the game because there's nothing new to show, that is equally censurable.
I presume that by "first and third party software, exclusives, indies and so on so forth" you mean games. So, yeah, Ubisoft has also to show that too. Only hardware and services may not be an area of focus for Ubisoft. But, quite frankly, it shouldn't be for Sony either. I'm sure we all remember the PS3's beginning and its focus on hardware and services. The result was not pretty and a very important lesson learned arose for every console maker: "it's all about the gamez!".
To show they're supporting the system all around they can do it on advertisements, no need to waste E3's precisous time on those corny messages. It passes the idea that they didn't work for themselves. Oh, wait, maybe that's the truth!
Uncharted 4, next big thing? LOL! Why not FIFA 15? The next big thing is usually something original, out-of-the-box, capable of innovating, changing the market and creating a fan base from scratch. Not something that is already on the 4th iteration, using the same formula and targeting an already established audience.
If it makes you happy: I admit, it's entirely personal that I find trailers and gameplay demos worthing more than teasers. It's entirely personal that I find full games more valuable than DLCs. It's entirely personal that I find AAA games more relevant than indie, retro or other low-budget titles. And it's entirely personal that I find new IPs, or at least sequels yet to be launched, more relevant than games everybody knows already and some have even played them on other platforms. Otherwise, Sony is objectively not a winner. Plain and simple.
