The free downloads are activated once you link your club Nintendo account to your Wii U. You don't get the code in the game bundle version. You get a blank Club paper. That then triggers the survey for the 160 or 170 coins for the System. Once your do that. Depending on how overloaded the servers are. Club will then eventually ask you to pick the four games. You pick.
Then it gives you the redeem code you enter on the Wii U eShop. If the server is overloaded, the thing will say "code has already been redeemed" DO NOT go insane, Keep trying. This happens to me. It will go through. Nintendo also sends a email that houses the code as well if for some reason the club page screws up and doesn't display the code.
