Outside of Pacman, those are all first-party characters, three of them from massive franchises. Pacman's a bone to the co-developer. Why should they not be included in a game that's equal parts Nintendo fan service?

Because none of the characters are fighters and their games (Olimar excluded) feature zero combat or action. I don't really care that they're in there, because with the 4th entry, they need to stretch to find new characters. I just don't think you can criticize for what other games include because Smash is going on limbs to include new characters.
