It means that PS4 will see strong 3rd party support throghout the gen. But even though Sony's pampering of 3rd parties does lead to great things it is sometimes at the expense of Sony's own interests.

Portal 2 on PS3 rumored to be promoting Steam because Valve threatened to not port the game like Left 4 Dead.

The Getaway on PS3 rumored to be cancelled because Rockstar didn't want the competition with GTA IV.

Warrior's Lair rumored to be cancelled because Blizzard didn't want the competition with Diablo 3.

Santa Monica's new open world space game rumored to be cancelled because Activision didn't want the competition with Destiny.

Driveclub rumored to be delayed because EA didn't want the competition with Need for Speed: Rivals.

etc.

At this E3 it's rumored that Destiny, AC Unity, Battlefield Hardline and Mortal Kombat X will all be at Sony's conference but I'd rather want Sony to spend even more time on all their exclusives (UC4, Driveclub, The Last Guardian, The Order, Guerrilla Games' new IP, Beast's Souls, Deep Down, Persona 5, H1Z1, new IPs etc.).

Is this level of ass licking really what's necessary to have great 3rd party support or could Sony prioritize their own interests a little more?

Not sure why you posted his post it's a fantasy, unless he can prove with sources any of that is true (It isn't), then it's bs. Sony first party has gotten stronger then it was in the ps1 and ps2 days so no..third party won;t effect sony'sclusives, the 2 are not mutually exclusive.

The question wasn't on the situtation's validty, simply on how it could be a bad thing.

If Sony is sacrificing there own ips for 3rd party support, then that's a bad thing regardless of whether or not its true.

This is what we call, a hypothetical sitaution.
