I do believe the Wii U is trying to be more of a Gamecube rather than Wii as well. More focus on "hardcore" titles at launch, franchises from GC era being a focus (Pikmin and WW HD, a more competitive focused Smash Bros), and literally bringing back the Gamecube controller, among other things, makes me think that they're trying to at least make a GC/Wii hybrid, to pull in both hardcore and casual markets.

Not commenting on the OP because it's the same argument we've all heard 50 times and yadda yadda whatever.
