E3 isn't important to the general game business, I've never actually seen proof of any company getting a hardware bump immediately following E3.
So I think that whole line of reasoning is a load of nonsense. Hardcore gamers on message boards like to make a lot of noise and assert their importance, but really, the vast majority of the game buying "Joe Public" doesn't care or even knows what E3, any more than they care about a car trade show or a trade show for potato chips and soft drinks, even though they may enjoy those products.
Nintendo fans are excited because after like 1 1/2 years they finally have one week to crow over, and some are getting delusions of grandeur in the process, which will likely be slapped down like a drunk guy hitting a hangover in oh ... 2-4 weeks.
