4. By making the Kinect optional, there is less differentiation between it and PS4. Thus at the same price, the only advantage it has is its media features, features with the exception of IR blaster and HDMI input, that can easily be added digitally.
Had a 400$ Kinect sku, it would have a much stronger position. A peripheral alone isn't going to make people not want to buy the console, as many Xbox fans have claimed, Price is a major factor, but I really doubt the Kinect 2 is really that expensive.
