I get why people ask for it, the new characters are bad. Recently we started the baby craze, then we got the wiggler, the bee and the cloud, thousands of Peaches and finally the crowd of koopalings. But I don't think smashification is the answer, there are many good mario characters that hasn't been used yet. Fawful springs to mind, and I'm sure especially the RPG games have many more.
