Well of course there is a totally different cost involved in making a game(£10m+) to paying for some DLC £100-250k+...
Paying for exclusive DLC/marketting rights to a game that you feel is going to do well and support your key audience (like Destiny, we know this game is going to be big and could be big for Sony), compared to bankrolling a game which you dont own the IP... way more risky. In fact all you are doing is helping that studio make a name for itself. If the Franchise is big they can just bring the next game out on all platforms and your original Moneyhat benefit will be lost.
So let's not be confused here big difference between the two, now I dont necessarily like the DLC delay, in fact Fallout 3 DLC was one of the most annoying things in my recent gaming history. One of the best games ever made, i was hungry for DLC, but Bethesda weren't even allowed to talk about it and it took over 6 months (maybe more) to get it on PS3... GTAV was the same. So if its only a month or so early, no problem, if its 6 months to a year... now that is taking the biscuit.
