Uhhh, couldn't you have just plugged in the console in any free room and then played purely on the Gamepad screen? I did that in college during our ridiculous breaks on Wednesday. Maybe I'm forgetting something complicated about setting it up the first time.
I'd suggest you reconsider paying extra for a Pro-Controller. I just play with the Gamepad plugged in... and wait to see what games the Gamecube-Controllers will be backwards compatible with - then again I personally believe the Gamecube controller bests any other conventional controller.
Also, wanna race?
Edit: You're gonna have to search for me because I can't find you on the Mii-Verse. My name is Twilord.
