I really don't get that part. From what we saw in X2, it's the real Striker who's responsible for Wolverine's claws, not Mystique. Am I missing something?

I guess Mistique became Striker because he was just a high ranking military guy.  When Logan was pulled from the water, she went back to living her life, peeing sitting down, etc.  She didn't remain striker for the rest of her life, you know.

Anyway, Wolverine jumped into future Wolverine with no memories aside from drowning.  Past Wolverine probably still fell into Striker's hands and everything unfolded the way that it should.  Xavier surely didn't want to change too much considering they'd need Wolverine with full adamantium in the future.
