I bought it at launch and assumed it would do reasonably well - better than most of the negative articles at the time predicted - But once 2012 ended and they started announcing game delays I was surprised how unclear it was who they were targeting for the Wii u - I bought our Wii u for my sons 8 th bday but game selection was very limited for his age younger and family gaming ( he had become a little Mario platformer weary by Then too)
The more hardcore gamer selection was thin too - they just did not seem to have conviction or direction - then the big game drought - buti still thought they would get it together - but after last e3 and holiday 2013 they just did not seem like they were going to get it together soon enough - They can still salvage something w the Wii u but it won t be big sales - Nintendo has seemed willing to sacrifice the Wii u for some reason - they have yet to have a sense of urgency for it
