Wii U to pull a 3DS?

It is not completely out of the realm of possibility that we could see going forward over the next year and a half, Wii pushing forward with a mature Zelda, some unique new ways of playing games that capture the mass market, a sexy new look for the system, a $249 price and mutiple other core titles such as X, Last Story, Metroid and others.  It could rise to prominance and baffle those who said Nintendo needs 3rd parties and Wii U is underpowered.

Could it happen?  Will it?

I'm going to say no.

It's not simply an unappealing price and design, though that doesn't help. And it's not that the system lacks a game-changing new IP, though that doesn't help either. And it's not the lack of third-party exclusives, though that's probably the most damaging thing they can/will fix.

The problem is that Nintendo's business model simply does not work anymore.The dynamic they used to sell the Wii and DS does not exist today, and their products are not competing in the arena they now find themselves in. The market moved on, and they let themselves get left behind.
