Part of the reason is that the Wii U version of MH3U retains many extemely low resolution textures and effects from the 3DS version, which were designed for a 240x400 screen. Blown up on a HDTV in glorious 1080p, they sting.
Hell, I'd go so far as to say the Wii version of Monster Hunter 3 looks better than the Wii U one, it at least has better water effects and weapon/gear.
