I enjoyed it, and everyone played their parts well (although why would you kill off your best actor 1/3 of the way through the movie? Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen are fine actors, but they never showed the gravitas and commanded the screen like Bryan Cranston did.), but as far as a monster movie goes, I thought it couldn't stand up to the sheer awe and pure fun that Pacific Rim gave us last year.

Godzilla was stuck between pulpy Monster action movie (best part of this was when Godzilla used his irratiated breath on the female MUTO) and human drama in the midst of disaster movie (best part of this was the sky jump with the intense music and hellish world they were approaching), and therefore never fully succeeded at either.

Oh well, Godzilla himself was pretty awesome.
