3rd Party Wii games are below par not because the console is necessarily ill suited to them but because Nintendo has a terrible relationship with 3rd Party Developers. There's STILL a six month waiting period for developers who order Wii developer kits on to get them. Nintendo has always had a pretty mediocre relationship with 3rd Parties, it's why way back when Squaresoft jumped ship and went to Playstation. 3rd Parties hated the Nintendo Seal of Quality and the 5th gen sticking with consoles, and they hate the way Nintendo runs the Wii these days as well. Until Nintendo dominates a generation the way the NES did (or change the way they do business with 3rd Parties), 3rd Party developers will take their best stuff elsewhere.

The thing is, of course, that domination might just happen. Nintendo is unique of the three console makers in that they can survive and thrive despite no or little 3rd party support, because they're arguably the best and certainly the best selling software developer out there themselves. It's doubtful, Words of Wisdom, that the Wii is a momentary flash, because Nintendo keeps on coming out with Killer Apps, and is smartly playing an entirely different game than Sony and MS. For them, all the things we're arguing about is small potatoes--they're catering (in their mind) to a much larger market than us. Maybe for the next gen they'll figure out a way to appeal to both hardcore gamers and all their casuals--a Wii HD, basically, with optional standard control pad--but they might just say fuck it and stay with their cash cow.

Also, it's a little disingenuous to say they got killed the previous two generations. They took 2nd place in the 5th gen and were behind XBox for 7th gen by only a couple of million consoles. Sega got killed those two generations. Nintendo did just fine, if not great. And if anyone is the National Enquirer/Fox News of video games (a ridiculous analogy no matter what) it's MS--creating a sheen around two consoles to make them attractive but, deep down, churning out mediocre, faulty product.

My consoles and the fates they suffered:

Atari 7800 (Sold), Intellivision (Thrown out), Gameboy (Lost), Super Nintendo (Stolen), Super Nintendo (2nd copy) (Thrown out by mother), Nintendo 64 (Still own), Super Nintendo (3rd copy) (Still own), Wii (Sold)
