Anyone whose paid attention to the trailers over the years knows that the gameplay will be a system built upon that of Kingdom Hearts. Which without question is an RPG. This game looks to be no different.
Considering Final Fantasy has never been about the combat, since they literally change it with every iteration, I hope that's not the reason why some old school fans dislike it. The Shimomura in the music is obvious, but I think she really talented so that's a plus. What matters is the Story and Characterization, and from what I've seen so far Noctis seems to be a better character than Lightning for sure.
I'm sure SE will deliver, this is there last chance after all. In fact, if they do this right and really ground their characters they could make better characters than most of the previous iterations.
