I never had that problem when playing the 3DS, even with motion controls in games like Star Fox & Mario Kart 7 & Zelda OoT & Luigi's Mansion & so fort.
You can move the 3DS several degress tilting diagonally to the left & right. And you don't loose the effect at all moving it up & down, which is perfect for bumpy roads while gaming.
Plus the more closer the 3DS is to your face, the more you can move it without losing the 3D effect, which is why I always play with my 3DS within 5 to 12 inches for easy 3D gaming.
Besides the DS lite had the same small sweet spot just to keep all the colors to stay exactly the same, or else they would change to a different variation of the same colors if you move the DS Lite just slightly, with the Brightness on 3 & 4.
