@bold. You could not be more wrong. That is not their target userbase. Nintendo sells boatloads of 3DS, but in general not to the same people who enjoy the main PS and XB home consoles. The content on the 3DS versus the content on the PS/XB proves that. Companies offer content on a platform that sells on that platform, and the content for the 3DS and the PS/XB are so different it's almost black on white. So Nintendo doesn't want nor need to convince those owners of anything, they just sell to a different market (as the 3DS and most WiiU content show). There may be some cross-cutting, but that would just show that the two audiences may have some tastes that meet here and there. |
Are you being serious? As far as I know Nintendo is a publicly traded company whose main purpose is to maximize profits for their shareholders, not a charity organization.
They want every PS and Xbox gamer, their moms, aunts and pets to buy Nintendo hardware and software as well as everyone else in the world. The paths to make it happen might be the point of discussion, but the objective is clearly that one. If Iwata has mentioned otherwise, then I would expect him being sacked as the CEO of the company ASAP.
The fact that you 'concede' the PS/XBox market to be something apart is the same reason why I'm saying Nintendo needs to step up to their credentials in E3.
I do have a PS4, a Vita, a 3DS and a gaming PC (plus all previous gen consoles and have been gaming since the NES days). I spend a ton of money in software every year. Are you saying that Nintendo shouldn't appeal to me anymore? I find it a terrible shame that the general consensus among the most loyal Nintendo fans is one of separation from the rest of the gaming market instead of trying to include everyone. The results of these policies are plainly visible nowadays.
Also, I never said they don't sell a lot of 3DS, but their market has shrunk in the recent years also in the handheld department, which they have led since the early days of the gameboy.
