Netflix and similar isnt needed if you have the channels for the programs you follow subscribed for on your cable box, and depending on how old/ghetto the box is, you are more than likely going to have the capability of recording said shows to your cable box.

elsewhere, ask a brit what they watch tv shows on more.. actual tv programming or apps on their games console.

Annnd... last but not least.. what do you think the IR blaster on the xbox one controls?, go on, i'll let you guess.

Your post is interesting because So many people have stated that the subs for cable are declining a lot  Also the big name cable providers have Apps on the 360 and probably will do the same on the X1.  Even specific cable content and TV have Apps that are now on consoles.

Even the brits are having more of their stuff coming to Consoles as Sky and Now will be on X1 and PS4.  You are giving me stuff as of today but the industry and consumers are changing how they consume content.

The IR blast controls your TV, Stereo and any other component that hooks up to your entertainment system.  If you are saying it controls your cable box well it does not.  The pass through HDMI does that
