when you try to sell a product to a mass market, perceptions are everything. Making a big spectacle in the biggest day in gaming can be the difference between being talked about and being ignored.

If Nintendo is happy selling to the fans that already got their console, great. If their intention is to grow the userbase... this is a terrible move.

They can't determine how things are done anymore, they have to meet the expectations that both Sony and MS are constantly adhering to (in this case a show of strength in a big E3 spectacle)

a spectacle that won't be watched by the mass market and thus, is irrelevant for your argument. stop believing this stuff. they will announce their games a susual and the media will cover it as usual.

The E3 is the ONLY moment of the year that the gaming industry makes the top stories of the non gaming media all over the world. The press conferences are broadcasted and the hype machines get to full speed.

Like I said, perception is everything in this business. In my oppinion it's a big mistake for Nintendo to bow out of the E3 conference. If you don't think so, hopefully you're not one of those people complaining about the lack of 'respect' Nintendo gets in the gaming press and publishers.
