The game exists independantly from the console meaning if the console breaks, if the HDD fails, the game is still able to be played. You get the security of having a physical back up and back ups are always a good idea. You get physical art work. You don't have to purchase huge external HDD's because you don't have to worry about storage. You don't have to deal with the reality that one day, Nintendo will shut down the servers (probably in just a few years) thus rendering any redownloading impossible should something go wrong.
