i don't think all these other extras hurt things,. i'd never argue that. in fact, i think it's these extras that have made the gen 8 transition so fast. i mean, we're around 6 months in now and have ~11.5M units sold between ps4 and xbone. that's amazing. for a gamer like me,. that $400 price tag isn't so bad when i know i get quality gaming and all that other shit that i do enjoy. i purchased my ps4 much, much earlier into this gen than i normally would.
...but i still don't seeing it doing anything to expand the audience for consoles. my non-gaming fans are buying rokus and apple tvs and chromecasts and probaly fireTVs. i think it is an inherently flawed PoV that thinks anyone would pay a $300 to $450 dollar premium for a device in order to have a feature (gaming) they aren't interested in. consoles are for gamers first and foremost and pretty much exclusively.

Partly agree. Sony and MS are looking at both the same way. Gamers are heavy tv watchers also. Why not do both with us?

highly limited returns. you aren't going to sway a gamer from one system to another with tv,.. you'll do that with games. you aren't going to sway a tv consumer to buy a console with ~10 shows a year. that's a massive ripoff compared to putting money into a competent tv service like netflix or hulu.

The key is that MS is not targeting gamers, they are targeting the family. As your household get bigger, you needs change. My needs today is much different then when I was single. Its a easier sell to the wife when you can show a device that gives everyone what they want. Trying to convice your wife that you need to drop 400 to 500 bones on something that take you away from the family never is a good conversation.
