@OP: To be clear, did you re-purchase the Harry Potter movie, i.e. you already owned it on DVD?
If you were offended by the price, why didn't you buy a DVD copy of it elsewhere, if you didn't already own it?
I just fail to see how this is "desperation": It is selling what people want to buy.
Decisions on what format to release movies in has practically no bearing on what movies are made in the first place.
Many films were produced even before the VHS era, do you have a problem with those being released on anything but 35mm print?
Maybe you are an ultra purist, which is OK, but clearly businesses exist for their consumers' demand, not purists' tastes.
