How is Disgaea DS anyway? Considering maybe picking that up...

Which would be better, Disgaea or FFT or FE?

FE > Disgaea > Dog poop > FFT.

Best SRPG's are in this order:

Final Fantasy Tactics > Disgaea 1 > Fire Emblem Series > Disgaea 2 > Ogre Tactics > Phantom Brave/La Pucelle

These are your must play games:

Final Fantasy Tactics

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

Yikes. I couldn't disagree with that list more.

Tactics Ogre is way better then the Disgaea and Final Fantasy Tactics games in both gameplay and story.

Though the Disgaea games to get points for having fun stories.

FFT is nothing but a dumbed down Tactics Ogre. It's still an ok game. I'm actually playing it right now. It's literally playing on my TV. But it's nowhere near top of the SRPG world. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is a better game.

Your also missing the Super Robot Wars series.... which is just unforgiveable in a list of great Strategy RPGs.

Also the Front Mission series.

Ah, but your in the even smaller niche of SRPG hardcore fans than I am. You can disagree with my opinion all day, but you have to admit that in general, the average Hardcore SRPG fan holds extreme respect for Final Fantasy Tactics, and probably has never played Tactics Ogre.

I found FFT to be a better game, not by design or depth, but by userfriendliness, pacing, and production design. I don't think there is any doubt that FFT is a simplified Tactics Ogre, but I feel that the simplification and specific design choices in FFT create a more cohesive overall package.

As for Disgaea, I think we can all agree that if anything is responsible for bringing SRPG to the spotlight its Disgaea. The reason its so fantastic(and a better game than Ogre imo) is the better story(in my opinion) which makes fun of itself, and in the ability of the character to circumvent the rules of the game.

Its just so over the top and invigorating that I have to also put it above Tactics Ogre.

Finally, the Fire Emblem series, in Japan, you just can't leave that out.

I greatly respect every game on my list, but I have to stand by my personal opinion on the best games, and I certainly believe for beginners, Tactics Ogre is NOT a good choice for new SRPG fans, its simply too overwhelming out of the gate.

Again, call me a fanboy, but I think the battles and the way the story works in FFT is one of the few emotional times I've ever had with a game. I feel that the difficulty before TG:Cid is fantastic and strikes a perfect balance. I feel that the forumla for FFT is even more advanced in some ways than the modern Fire Emblem formula, and I feel that some of the individual battles, especially early on, are some of the most memorable moments in gaming history.

To me, FFT is a golden god. I love it, I worship it, and I feel it is one of the greatest games ever developed. Tactics advance was a good game, but didn't live up to the quality of the original, imo, and I still, to this day, play Final Fantasy Tactics, in all its glory, and I feel that if any one SRPG is the definition of the genre, it is, and shall ever be that game.

It's not only my favorite strategy game, it's my favorite Final Fantasy game, period.

imo.

I don't need your console war.

You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
